Summer School Venue: Hotel Sirena, Hvar

The island of Hvar, also known as Croatia´s sunniest island, is the crown-jewel of the Dalmatian islands. With more than 2700 hours of sun per year, and due to its location at the center of the Adratic sailing routes, it has been inhabitated sind pre-historic times and has now become a tourist Mecca of the Mediterranean. The island is known for its green setting, extraordinary beauty and the harmonious setting of small towns, hillsides coved in pine forest and cultivated areas with vineyards, olive groves, orchards and lavender fields.
The Town of Hvar is the largest settlement on the island. Centuries have ground its stone and shaped its appearance. Hvar is proud to present its visitors with one of the oldest municipal theatres in Europe. The town is Croatia´s trendiest summer destination and a "must-be" spot.

Travel Information

The local currency is the Croatian kuna (HRK, kn).

Current exchange rate: 1 € = 7,10-7,40 kn, 1$ = 5,80-6,20 kn.

Your accommodation at Hotel Sirena including full board is covered by the registration fee. However, unless you buy your shuttle bus and catamaran/ferry ticket online, you will need some cash in local currency for public transportation or taxi. A branch of Splitska banka (opening hours 06:00 - 13:00 h and 14:00 - 21:00 h) is available in the arrivals section of Split Airport, so are several ATM machines. They will most likely offer a better exchange rate than currency exchange offices in town.

The Island of Hvar is connected to the mainland by catamaran and ferry. The main operator is Jadrolinija. A direct bus line operated by PLESO PRIJEVOZ connects the closest and most convenient airport, Split Airport Kaštela, to Split Harbor. Shuttle bus departures correspond with flight arrivals. Tickets cost 40 kn and can be bought online or on the bus (cash only).

The best option to get from Split Harbor to the town of Hvar is by catamaran. The trip takes about 1 hour, schedules can be found on the Jadrolinija website. Departure port is Split, port of arrival is Hvar. There are 6 connections to Hvar on Saturday, 23 September 2017, leaving Split at 09:45 h, 10:30 h, 12:00 h, 15:00 h, 15:45 h, 17:00 h. Tickets cost between 55 kn and 100 kn and can be bought online. However, only a certain percentage of available tickets are sold online. If there are no more tickets to be bought through the website, there may still be seats available. Tickets can then be bought at the Harbor (cash or credit card).

Option 2 is the ferry connection from Split Harbor to Stari Grad (Hvar). The ferry ride takes 2 hours. Ferry schedules are also available at www.jadrolinija.hr/en/ferry-croatia. (Departure port = Split, port of arrival = Stari Grad). Departure times from Split on Saturday, 23 September 2017: 5:00 h, 8:30 h, 11:00, 14:30 h, 17:00 h, 20:30 h. The tickets cost 47 kn and can be bought online or at the ticket office at Split Harbor.
There is a bus connection from the port of Stari Grad to the town of Hvar. Bus schedules are coordinated with ferry arrival times. Busses leave Stari Grad at 7:10 h, 10:20 h, 13:00 h, 16:15 h, 19:15 h, 22:15 h. Tickets can be bought on the bus and cost ca. 40 kn (cash only).
Alternatively, you can take a taxi to Hvar.

Hotel Sirena is located about 2 km away from the center of the old town of Hvar. Upon your arrival in Hvar on Saturday, a shuttle bus or van will take you from the bus stop next to the harbor (about 200 m) to the hotel. If you have any questions or can´t find the bus stop right away, please look for members of our team who will be there to assist you. They will be wearing white T-Shirts with the FEBS logo.

Please coordinate your flight with catamaran/ferry schedules and allow enough time for transfers!
