The island of Hvar, also known as Croatia´s sunniest island, is the crown-jewel of the Dalmatian islands. With more than 2700 hours of sun per year, and due to its location at the center of the Adratic sailing routes, it has been inhabitated sind pre-historic times and has now become a tourist Mecca of the Mediterranean. The island is known for its green setting, extraordinary beauty and the harmonious setting of small towns, hillsides coved in pine forest and cultivated areas with vineyards, olive groves, orchards and lavender fields.
The Town of Hvar is the largest settlement on the island. Centuries have ground its stone and shaped its appearance. Hvar is proud to present its visitors with one of the oldest municipal theatres in Europe. The town is Croatia´s trendiest summer destination and a "must-be" spot.

Scientific Posters

Students are invited to bring a poster to present their scientific projects.
The size is 150 cm x 100 cm (height x width).

If you need an invitation letter, you will have to download and fill in the application form from the site of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and we will send you the invitation letter. Contact for invitation letters is Ms. Sonja Valentic (sonja.valentic@medri.uniri.hr). With both documents you will have to apply to Croatian embassies (or Consulates) in your home country.

Please consider that the visa procedure usually takes around 10 days but it might be up to 30 days at worst.

Travel Information

The Island of Hvar is connected to the mainland by catamaran and ferry. The main operator is Jadrolinija.

The closest and most convenient airport is Split Airport Kaštela. There is a direct bus line from the airport to Split Harbor, operated by PLESO PRIJEVOZ.

The best option to get from Split Harbor to the town of Hvar is by catamaran. The trip takes about 1 hour, schedules can be found on the Jadrolinija website. Departure port is Split, port of arrival is Hvar. There are 5 connections to Hvar on Saturday, 23 September 2017, the last one leaving Split Harbor at 5 pm. Tickets can be bought online. However, only a certain percentage of available tickets are sold online. If there are no more tickets to be bought through the website, there may still be seats available. Tickets can then be bought at the Harbor.

Option 2 is the ferry connection from Split Harbor to Stari Grad (Hvar). The ferry ride takes 2 hours. There is a bus connection from the port of Stari Grad to the town of Hvar. Bus schedules are coordinated with ferry arrival times. Alternatively, you can take a taxi to Hvar. Ferry schedules are also available at www.jadrolinija.hr/en/ferry-croatia. (Departure port: Split, port of arrival: Stari Grad). The last ferry leaves Split Harbor at 8:30 pm.

More information about the transfer from the town of Hvar to the venue will be posted soon. Hotel Sirena is located about 2 km away from the center of the old town of Hvar.

Please coordinate your flight with catamaran/ferry schedules and allow enough time for transfers!
